    Your Getting Started Checklist

Once you've created your account and picked a plan, here's the order that gets you to a useful, accurate picture of your money the fastest. Following this order matters: if you start categorizing transactions before your categories are set up the way you like, you'll end up redoing work later.

    1. Add an account

Everything in Fyscal, transactions, budgets, cashflow, reports, is tied to an account, so start here before anything else. You can add as many as you need, covering the money you actually use day to day.

    • Checking or savings
    • Credit card
    • Cash, if you use it

Tip: You can always add more accounts later, so don't wait until every account is ready. Free plan accounts are capped at 3 active accounts, so start with the ones you check most often.

    2. Check your categories

Fyscal already seeded a starter set of income and expense categories for you when you signed up, covering common buckets like salary, groceries, rent, and utilities, so you're not building a list from scratch. Spend a few minutes making sure it actually matches how you think about your own spending before transactions start flowing in.

Tip: Open Categories in the sidebar to rename, add, or remove any before you start categorizing transactions.

    3. Get transactions flowing

    • Bank sync: connect a supported bank for automatic, ongoing sync. Fyscal pulls in an initial batch of recent transactions right away, then keeps checking daily.
    • Manual import: upload a CSV or Excel statement instead if your bank isn't supported or you'd rather not connect it.

Tip: Either way, new transactions land as uncategorized in your Pending queue first, they don't just silently appear in your reports.

    4. Set up rules for repeat transactions

For merchants and bills that show up regularly, like rent, subscriptions, or salary, create a rule once so future transactions from that merchant are categorized automatically instead of by hand every time. Rows categorized by a rule show a small badge so you can always tell the automation from a manual pick.

    5. Categorize what's left

Anything a rule doesn't catch lands in your Pending / For Review queue. A quick manual pass, daily or weekly, keeps your budgets and reports accurate. If you ever categorize something wrong, Undo sends it straight back to Pending so you can fix it without deleting and re-entering it.

Tip: Each of these steps has its own detailed guide under Accounts & Transactions and Importing & Bank Sync if you want to go deeper.
