Categorized vs. Pending Transactions
By ZohaibThe Transactions page has two tabs, and every transaction lives in one of them at any given time. Understanding the difference is the key to understanding why a transaction is, or isn't, showing up in a budget or report.
Pending (For Review)
New transactions, whether synced from your bank, imported from a statement, or entered manually, land here first if they don't already have a category. A badge on the tab shows how many are waiting, so you always know at a glance whether you're caught up.
Categorized
Once a transaction has a category, whether you assigned it by hand or a rule did it for you automatically, it moves to the Categorized tab and counts toward your budgets and reports from that point on.
What moves a transaction between tabs
- Manually assigning a category moves it from Pending to Categorized.
- A matching rule categorizes it automatically the moment it comes in.
- Using Undo on a Categorized transaction sends it back to Pending and clears its category, name, notes, tags, and attachments.
Why the split matters
Reports and budgets only count what's Categorized. A transaction sitting in Pending is real money that moved, but it won't show up in your spending totals until it has a category, so a big Pending queue usually means your reports are undercounting your actual activity.
Tip: If a transaction ends up miscategorized, use Undo to send it back to Pending and start over, rather than trying to fix it in place.
